Sheet metal parts are made from a single sheet of metal, so the wall thickness must be uniform. Sheet metal thickness can range from 0.024 in. (0.609mm) to 0.250 in. (6.35mm). For laser cutting, a recommended thickness range is 0.5-10 mm (0.02-0.394 in), and for bending, it's 0.5-6 mm (0.02-0.236 in).

Holes and slots
The diameter of holes and slots should be at least equal to the material's thickness, or 1.00 mm (0.04 in), whichever is greater. For alloy or stainless steel, the diameter should be at least twice the material thickness. Proper spacing between holes is also important.
